Tips to Create Laundry Room

There is an increasing tendency to remove the washing machine from the kitchen and create a laundry room (and iron, when possible) of the size that your house allows you. These are the tips you have to follow.

LAUNDRY ROOM IN A CLOSET: MEASUREMENTS

Take advantage of a transit area to win a closet that becomes a laundry room. You need to have at least a depth of 60 cm (better a few centimeters more) to fit the washer and dryer. And 70 cm wide is also enough. This way, you can install the two appliances in a column, one on top of the other. If you prefer to save space for shelves and laundry products, choose a washer-dryer and place shelves on top. You can also leave the clothes waiting to be ironed.

A ROOM EQUIPPED IN THE BATHROOM

If you take the washing machine to the bathroom, do it so that it is integrated so as not to break the aesthetics of the whole. The best thing - if there is space- is to create a wardrobe or closet. You must think about the type of opening of the doors to allow you to access easily and that it does not hinder the washer and dryer door path.

WHEN WASHER AND DRYER ARE INSTALLED IN COLUMN

It is recommended that if the washer and dryer are installed in a column in the laundry room, there is a shelf between them so that the movements of each appliance when it is used do not affect the other. If you have space to place a sink in the room, try to make it close to the washing machine. Thus, if you have to pre-wash or rub a garment, the journey to the washing machine will be quick.

BAR AND BASKETS FOR CLEAN CLOTHES

In the laundry and ironing rooms, it is good to install a bar where you can hang the most wrinkled clothes. This will make the ironing task easier. Or you can use it to hang freshly ironed garments. Recommendation: have baskets on hand to organize the clothes pending ironing and those that are already ironing. You will gain functionality if you reserve a space inside a cabinet, on the wall, or on the side of a module for the ironing board.

INSTALL A WALL-MOUNTED TOWEL RADIATOR

Are you going to create a laundry room at home? This space that you see is resolved in a few meters. And it has a practical element: a heated towel rail. It is installed on the wall and does not take up too much space, but it will come in handy to heat the room and give a last blow of heat to the towels that come out of the dryer or to quickly dry small clothes.

DEEP SINKS

If you are going to install a sink in the laundry room, choose a specific model for this area. They usually have more depth than conventional ones to be able to wash a garment without splashing.

PLAN THE ELECTRICITY AND WATER INTAKES

When you think about your laundry room, it is fundamental to plan the points of light and the water intake. The washing machine needs both, and the dryer needs an electrical outlet and, depending on the model, it must be connected to a drain (more comfortable), or you can remove the water manually. But in addition, you need an extra water intake if there is a sink. And additional plugs for the iron, for example. Do not neglect the points of light to place wall lights or spotlights near the work area. All this applies to laundry cabinets, so if you want to create one in a hallway, you have to make sure you can carry the facilities.
